So, we'll take it from the top, Finn quickly signed to Marcus, before signalling for Hannah to cut the music.
They'd been practising for three hours, and the reprise of Words of Your Body was now ingrained in their minds, which was good since they'd be performing it at tonight's drama soc showcase.
Okay. Was that alright? Marcus replied.
You were perfect. It was perfect.
Marcus blushed and thanked him, then took his mark on the mossy Styrofoam garden that served as their stage. He lay his head down among the cracked porcelain roses and rubber irises, his hair falling into his face. He blew at it playfully, getting into character as the shy and reserved Ernst Rรถbel.
Marcus gave him a thumbs up, and Finn sat down beside him. Marcus watched his lips closely, signing along, accompanied by the piano and recorded birdsong playing over the speakers. The orange gel bathed the stage in a warming glow.
Okay, and... stop. Did you want to run the dialogue?
I mean, sure. If you want to. You going to be my bisexual bad boy?
Aren't I already? Finn smirked.
Flirt.
You started it.
Shall I finish it?
God, no! This energy will be perfect for the performance.
And only for the performance?
Marcus shifted to sit on his lap.
All the world's a stage, my Romeo.
And shall I compare thee to a summer's day, my sweet Romeo?
God, you are so fucking cheesy.
And you love it. Marcus laughed. As I love you.
I love you too. Now, the dialogue.
By seven o'clock, Marcus and Finn were dressed and ready. The hall buzzed with chattering students and their parents, rustling through programs and opening bags of crisps.
You alright? Finn asked, brushing a strand of hair from Marcus's face.
Yeah! This is going to be so much fun.
Kiss for good luck?
Marcus nodded and leaned in. Their lips met in a tender kiss.
Good luck, my Hรคnschen.
You too, Ernst.
The curtains swung open, and the ambient music began—the soft striking of bells, the singing of birds. With a deep breath, Marcus sauntered onto the stage hand in hand with Finn, ready to perform the opening lines from the Vineyard Scene.
