A former slave, Teth-Adam, aka Black Adam (nee the Mighty Adam), was chosen by the Wizard, Mamaragan, to be his champion of magic and was bestowed the abilities of an African pantheon of gods. 

These powers slowly corrupted him, leading to his fall from hero to villain.

He would use the Scarab during an ill-fated fight with the immortal, Vandal Savage. 

Badly wounded, Nabu sealed both himself and the Scarab within a pyramid in Chaldea's Valley of Ur. There he remained in a magical, restorative trance.

The first superhero of Earth, Aurakles, was created by the experiments of the gods of New Genesis upon early humans.

He was eventually captured and defeated by the scavenger-king Melmoth and his army, the Sheeda.

A former Deathbringer, Ktar, fell in love with Shrra and betrayed his master. For this, he would be cursed into an endless cycle of love, death and reincarnation.

The Scarab of Kha-ef-re - New History of the DC Universe

Severed from the Reach, the Reach Infiltrator Khaji Da was refashioned into the Scarab of Kha-ef-re by Nabu the Wise. 

Mistaking the extraterrestrial artefact as a mystical relic, the Agent of Order wielded the Scarab during a fight with Vandal Savage, calling upon their power against the immortal.

An extraterrestrial infiltrator for the Reach, Khaji Da, crashed on Earth during the lifetime of Nabu the Wise. 

Severing their connection to the Reach, Nabu refashioned them into the Scarab of Kha-ef-re.
